Alright, well apparantly my SSI require an extension of .shtml, so that's all fixed up. All parts of the site are now accessible, yay!
Things seem to have sped up in terms of connection and downloading. I have yet to keep trying and see how everything works. I'm still a bit on the skeptical side, but things look like they are turning out for the better. I downloaded ZD3.3 to my desktop not so long ago and it was pumping out at over 100k/sec; that's pretty good if you ask me.
I've re-added a counter to the side. Harshly enough it's set to zero. Sitemeter allows me to add hits without information to the site, so I added about 5000. That was pretty close to what I had before my old counter junked-out. Having a counter again is kind of nice!
Happy (early) New year!
Things have finally started up. I'm still hitting some hard spots with the new hosting, as a lot of stuff changes when you switch from one hosting operating system to another. I'm having a little trouble with the server side includes, as they don't seem to like an extension of plain .shtm, but rather seem to require .shtml. I've contacted my provider to see what's up.
I also had to add an autoloader page which forwards you to index.shtml for the time being. I'm trying to patch up all this stuff. It may be a while, but please be patient.
For now only the main page has working links. To navigate you'll have to just keep hitting the back button to come back to the main page. Sorry.
The hosting also seems to be a bit slow at the moment. I'm going to give it a few days. If it turns out that I switched for the worse, I'll most likely end up switching to another host that offers a Unix/Linux plan that allows for some better features. I may end up having to pay a little more, but it could quite possibly be worth each penny.
We'll see what happens. Thanks for waiting!
The domain has started to point to the new DNS location. I'm still setting up a lot of things here on the new server, mainly SSI stuff, and also getting it to autoload .shtm files. Please bear with the construction :)
The new server has been set up. I had to change the DNS entries for my domain name, so things may take a while before I can actually start uploading all of the content to the new servers. In the next day or two you should see a change. I did manage to make a little "updating" page for when the domain actually starts to point to the new server location.
The new server is a Linux box, running Apache. The server I was running was some Windows2000 machine. It worked well, but didn't provide the cgi/perl access I wanted. Hopefully I'll be able to add some new content and other stuff with the features the Linux hosting offers me.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to setting up the new server!
It's that time of year! No, not the holiday season, but that time of year for me to renew my hosting/domain hosting and stuff. I'm still going to be hosting at the same company, but I am switching plans. Please be warned of this. My current hosting expires today, and my new plan is being created today. Loomsoft.net will ultimately point somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly which one it will point to. Hopefully by Monday things will be back to normal and working fine.
Emails will probably be down for that period of time. Sorry for any inconvenience guys. Everything will be back to normal shortly.
Things are going quite slowly here. Johan, who is doing the tiles for ZD is working quite slow as well. Christmas approaches, and the number of things one must do increases, decreasing the amount of time to work on games and such!
You would think there would be so much time to get in all this extra stuff, but, the truth is there's lots of things to do to prepare for the upcoming holidays!
I have been thinking about other things, like Lune. How I will revisit it, if I will revisit it at all. Lots of stuff going on, just nothing really tangible that I can show you.
Okay, so here you finally have it. This is one of the bunch of things I have been working on recently: the new design! It's finally here, and I'm quite happy with it. It's very simple yet completely expandable. Some things may not be here to stay, most notably the right menu bar. If I cannot find suitable content to fill it, it's just a space waster - so it will be moved to the left side. This can all be easily done, however, via the nice expandable nature of the new design. I can add and remove specific content sections of the site without damaging the core parts of each separate page!
As you'll notice, there's also some nice new content for you to look at. I have added another lesson to the
Allegro Newbie Tutorials. This addition is lesson 8, which covers simple bounding box collision detection. Make sure to check it out!
I've also added a whole new document to the resource section:
Organizing Your Project. This is a simple tutorial/article which covers the techniques I use to organize my project to make it easy to navigate and understand.
The whole resources section has undergone some renovation as well. Each resource document is now self containing and does not adhere to the layout/design of the main LoomSoft site. The tutorials have their own layout and are to be viewed separate from the site. This allows for easy editing and transfer to new designs - and also allows for the tutorial downloads to be quickly crafted, as they do not to be edited from their web form. To download any tutorial, just follow the
Tutorial Downloads link. Here you can pick from which .zip archived tutorial you would like to download.
As usual, comments and suggestions are highly encouraged. If you'd like to send a word to me about any of the new content or the new design, feel free: jay(at)loomsoft(dot)net
Enjoy the new site. I hope you find it as useful as I do!
My computer kind of died out on me over the weekend. It was quite depressing. I had to reformat the poor thing, but thankfully no code or work was lost. And then, after that format, it died on me again - so I was required to format it once again. I'm going to try and be very cautious, to make backups just about every time before I shut down or restart the unit.
Anyways, I've been working on some stuff. The reformat forced me to have to compile allegro once again, so now I've got a new version of allegro! The flicker problem has been fixed in this release of allegro, so all winXP and winNT/2000 users should be quite happy! :) No download of ZD compiled with the new version yet, though, sorry.
I also added a nice little feature to ZD that saves your volume settings upon quitting the game. It should prove to be useful. Now, back to work on one of those things that I can't mention just yet :)
Alright, so it's been almost a month since last post. I feel like bashing my head on the desk right now. I haven't been dead. I've been working on a lot of things, and finally x-mas vacation has arrived.
Stay tuned. I have many additions to the site coming very soon. I'm not going to reveal just what they are at this moment. Just know that it's coming, I just need to put it all together. It's been taking a while, and I've been kind of disappointed that I haven't posted more news to the site. I hope to fix that problem by posting a lot more over vacation.
Also, I've been working on levels for ZD. It's quite difficult to make very challenging levels using the same techniques over and over. Pumping out levels sure does take quite a while.
Anyways, I have to get back to work. Keep checking back, I'll surely be updating more ;)
