In thinking more about NPCs and their interactions with the player I realized that I'm going to need a much more robust object editor within the game. For instance, certain objects are going to need to know about other specific objects. This means that there needs to be a way to uniquely identify different objects from on another. Providing a way to add IDs to objects isn't something I necessarily wanted to do from the start of pulling the editor together, but it seems I may have no choice in this regard. What's more, I very well may be finding myself building editor/GUI code specifically for certain types of objects--something I'm not particularly looking forward to.

Then we get into more complex stuff like how interactions with NPCs can trigger other objects to move, appear, or otherwise do something interesting. There is no concept of scripting implemented into the engine yet. This may be something I have to start researching in order to see what it can do for me. While things have been pulling together nicely over time I can clearly see that there is a whole lot of work still left. The majority of the engine is there but there is still just so much more.

This doesn't even begin to scrape the surface of the artwork required. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I'm going to do about that. I do believe I mentioned that I was going to start looking for someone to provide art assets for the game. To be honest, I still haven't taken that initial step. I'm trying to consider the fact that I may be able to pull it off, but my skills will take a lot of time to get up to par. I'm just not ready (yet!) to officially start looking for someone for the art. In due time!
